SUMMARY:
This position provides professional, friendly and quality welcome to the guests of The Crossings. Also, this position provides housekeeping and food service duties at The Crossings and is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of all facility areas including the resident rooms and common areas, may assist Activities, nursing personnel and Elder Sharath in non-care related duties under the supervision of the Administrators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Housekeeping:
- Graciously, greet and assist residents and visitors.
- Assist visitors in locating desired areas of facility
- Answer the telephone in a professional and friendly manner
- Direct calls or take messages as necessary
- Responsible for daily cleaning of a number of resident's rooms and public use areas as assigned.
- Will perform needed; vacuuming of carpeted areas, sweeping and mopping of tiled floors, dust rooms and common areas as required, empty waste paper baskets
- Light maintenance tasks as needed and assigned; window washing, floorcare and carpet cleaning as assigned.
- Clean and disinfect the resident's bathroom (sink, toilet and floor areas)
- Must have the ability to work independently and work with a wide range of residents who often times are confused and can be easily agitated.
- Assist with laundry services
- Assist with setting and clearing the dining room table for meals
- Assist with serving meals
- Assist Activities Coordinator as needed
Food Production & Kitchen Sanitation/Safety:
- Responsible for the daily set up of the dish washing room (i.e.: preparing the soaking tubs, checking the soap lines, etc)
- Responsible for the proper return and storage of dishes after being cleaned
- Serves the resident food and beverages as assigned
- Assist and prepare meals as directed
- Transport food carts to designated areas as directed in a safe and efficient manner
- Maintains clean work areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Practices appropriate sanitation and safety techniques in accord with Serv Safe.
- Obtains Serv Safe Certification.
- Practices appropriate knife and equipment safety at all times.
- Performs daily and weekly cleaning duties as assigned.
- Labels all foods appropriately.
- Protects equipment, utensils, food, and other items of inventory from contamination, spoilage, and pilferage.
Safety:
- Obeys safety rules of St. John's United
- Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards
- Routinely places wet floor signs or other safety warning materials to notify others of the hazard
- Attends mandatory safety in-services
Mission/Customer Service:
- Supports the growth and actively engages in the Eden Alternative philosophy, including a work environment with plants and animals.

Employee Responsibilities:
- Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
- Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
- Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when stocking supplies or carrying items.
- Attends all mandatory in-services
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Cottage Administrator of the Willows
- Has daily contact with residents, guests and staff members
Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Less than high school, no previous work experience required. Knowledge of health and sanitation regulations would be beneficial.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
- Ability to understand verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including vacuums, floor buffers, carpet cleaners, etc.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to relate well with public
- Must possess good telephone etiquette
- Must possess good writing, verbal and observation skills
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in a professional manner
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
- Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Requires lifting, bending, walking and standing for prolong periods of time. Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Requires moderate bending, standing and reaching activities
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work involves some exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work involves some exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
