DEPARTMENT: PLANT OPERATIONS
POSITION TITLE: GROUNDSKEEPER I (Seasonal)
RESPONSIBLE TO: GROUNDS SUPERVISOR
EXPOSURE LEVEL: CATEGORY III
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt

SUMMARY:
Performs routine grounds maintenance that may include watering, raking, mowing, weeding, planting and trash/litter removal. Operates powered grounds equipment. Must be able to work a flexible schedule during summer concerts/events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Grounds
Irrigates, mows, rakes and trims lawns
Picks up and disposes of litter
Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls using clippers and edging tools
Performs weeding
Lays sod
Assist with small construction tasks such as excavating and handling and or transportation of equipment and materials
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Event set up
Sets up tents, chairs, tables, etc as needed
Direct traffic and general duties as assigned by Grounds Supervisor and Event Coordinator

Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United
Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards
Attends mandatory safety in-services

Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
Attends all mandatory in-services
Performs other duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor or person in charge of area where work is being done.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements:
Less than high school, no previous work experience required
A valid Montana driver’s license will be required if a motor vehicle must be operated on the job.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety precautions
Knowledge of general grounds maintenance
Ability to perform grounds maintenance tasks
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
Ability to perform grounds maintenance such as laying sod
Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects
Requires the ability to work in extreme heat and cold conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires heavy physical work more than 70% of the time, including lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment.
