Position Summary:

The Behavioral Health Clinician II (BHC II) provides screening, consultation, behavioral interventions, referrals, counseling, and therapy to patients within an integrated medical and behavioral health setting. Makes clinical recommendations and refers patients to appropriate levels of care in a team-based setting. Must be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of California. This position requires a strong team player and self-starter. The BHC II provides mental health and substance use assessments and treatment to patients across multiple sites. The BHC II promotes patients' self-management and empowers patients and families to achieve maximum levels of wellness and independence.

Reporting to the Director of Re-Entry Services, the BHC II is embedded within the Re-Entry Services team and focuses on providing behavioral health services to justice-impacted individuals throughout Los Angeles County and surrounding communities. The clinician maintains an active patient caseload while collaborating closely with Re-Entry case managers through case consultation, treatment planning, and clinical guidance to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care. The BHC II facilitates access to behavioral health, substance use treatment, and community resources, supporting successful community reintegration while ensuring compliance with all clinical, licensing, and funding requirements.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Education: (Required)

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, or other discipline acceptable toward licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as a therapist.

Experience: (Required)

  • 2 years providing direct mental health services and supports in an integrated health setting.
  • Bilingual (preferred).

Licensure/Certification:

  • Licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as LCSW, LMFT

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties:

Clinical patient care 

  • Provide assessment, evaluation and mental health treatment 
  • Provide individual and group therapy to promote overall wellness, in accordance with the treatment plan 
  • Consult with medical providers on psychosocial issues patients bring to their medical appointments 
  • Triage both urgent and routine referrals from medical providers and program staff 
  • Collaborate with staff and providers to schedule patients for intake 
  • Engage in regular case conferencing with program staff and primary care departments 
  • Formulate client-centered treatment plans for assigned clients 
  • Ensure linkage to case management, advocacy, medication monitoring, emergency services, insurance companies, education referrals and consultation with other agencies as appropriate 
  • Collaborate with primary care, prescribing physician, emergency services, program staff, and consult (where appropriate) other agencies regarding each client 

Communication and support 

  • Prepare case presentations when indicated to the multi-disciplinary team 
  • Provide feedback to medical providers and program staff on patients referred 
  • Participate in Integrated Behavioral Health clinical, staff, and other meetings as assigned 
  • Participate in scheduled supervision sessions with clinical and administrative supervisors 
  • Collaborate with the Re-Entry Services team to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care for justice-impacted individuals.

Administrative 

  • Maintain professional licensure 
  • Comply with all medical record keeping requirements for assigned caseload 
  • Meet or exceed productivity objectives 
  • Prepare timely submission of all Electronic Health Record (E.H.R.) records required (i.e. visit notes, billing paperwork and prior authorizations as examples) 
  • Schedule work hours and days in accordance with operational needs 
  • Respond and contribute to data collection and other information gathering activities necessary for programs' evaluation, funding and development
  • Respond to and contribute to data collection, audits, reporting requirements, and other information-gathering activities necessary to support program evaluation, funding, compliance, and continuous program development.

Salary : $110,500 - $135,000
