About the Role
St. John the Divine Early Learning Center is seeking a warm, enthusiastic, and dedicated Assistant Teacher to join our wonderful team. Assistant Teachers provide support to the Lead Teachers and help create a loving, safe, and engaging Christian learning environment for young children and infants. Our ideal candidate is nurturing, dependable, and passionate about early childhood education.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily lesson plans and classroom routines
- Supervise and care for children in a nurturing, developmentally appropriate way
- Maintain a clean, organized, interactive classroom
- Clean and sanitize toys, equipment, and shared spaces
- Conduct daily health checks and assist with developmental evaluations
- Communicate with parents about children’s needs and progress (under Lead Teacher guidance)
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and school events
- Contribute to overall center operations
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Prior experience working with young children in a licensed childcare or educational setting preferred
- Completion of DCF 45-hour training (or willingness to complete)
- Early Childhood Education coursework is a plus
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Florida Background Screening Notice: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of Florida’s required background screening. - Knowledge of child development (birth–5 years)
- Positive, patient, nurturing, team‑oriented
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Good judgment, reliability, and professionalism
- Ability to stay calm and think clearly in stressful situations
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 40 lbs
- Frequently carry and hold infants/children
- Bend, kneel, stretch, push, and pull regularly
- Push evacuation cribs during emergencies
- Work indoors and outdoors
