What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Coordinator position at St. John's Lutheran Church?
Position Summary: The Finance Coordinator is responsible for processing the Accounts Payable for St. John’s Lutheran and Accounts Receivable and other accounting tasks. Working under the supervision of the Finance Specialist and with the support of other staff and the Finance Ministry Team, the Finance Coordinator furthers St. John’s purpose and vision by accurately processing and reporting on our financial health, which builds trust in our congregation and enhances our mission to be in the city for good.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures compliance with GAAP standards, State, Federal and IRS guidelines
2. Assist with the creation of employee paperwork, including payroll coordination, employee benefits coordination, new hire paperwork, tracking employee use of vacation and sick time and background checks, as needed
3. Collaborate with Finance Specialist on financial reporting of monthly and annual bank reconciliation
4. Assist Finance Specialist in the creation of detailed reports for revenue and expense statements, balance sheet, and other reports as needed, distributing reports to the St. John’s Council and related staff
5. Lead accounts payables, including monitor and paying invoices, working with vendors to ensure accurate billing, and invoice production
6. Lead accounts receivables, including counting and depositing of offerings, post contributions for record of giving and issuing contribution statements, as needed; works with stewardship committee for the annual pledge process
7. Collaborate with Finance Specialist in the organization and management of existing contracts and quotes with new vendors
8. Attend weekly staff meetings
9. Attend finance-related ministry team meetings, as requested
10. Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
1. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel
2. Experience with Church Management and Payroll Software, especially ShelbyNext and Paylocity a plus, but not necessary
3. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential
4. Willingness to learn new accounting technology and processes, and adapt skills to maintain efficiency and relevance
5. Ability to work in team environment and achieve goals for short- and long-term initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree with emphasis in Bookkeeping or Accounting is required, with a minimum of three years of related experience. Experience working in a church or non-profit environment is desirable.
