Job Summary
The Lead Sexton (head custodian) manages and oversees all aspects of the properties owned by the church, is responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the church, supervises other sextons, and acts as building superintendent for the parsonage and rental properties.
Essential Functions
· The grounds of the church properties are well maintained in all seasons
· The interior of the whole church is kept clean
· Minor repairs as needed
· Maintenance of church properties’ mechanical and electrical systems
· Ensuring that the facilities are prepared for various functions and events
· Supervision of other sextons
· Creates schedule for securing the church building each evening
· Coordinating with service contractors as needed acting as a liaison for the Property Committee
· Coordinates volunteers to assist with tasks as needed
· Responds to emergency situations
Other Responsibilities
· Participate in staff meetings.
· Ensures safety protocols are followed for materials and equipment.
· Attend Property Committee meetings
Qualifications
· High school diploma
· Prior work experience preferred
· Physical ability to perform the work
· Willingness to work some weekends and some holidays
· Criminal background check and child abuse clearances required
