The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 154 elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. The assistant principal enables the school administrator to provide more effective leadership in the implementation of the school’s mission, goals and philosophy. The Assistant Principal should be a person with initiative who is service oriented and passionate about the mission and goals of the School and Parish.
Accountability:
The assistant principal is selected by and is directly accountable to the principal. The assistant principal is expected to abide by the established policies and procedures of the
Archdiocese of Chicago. The assistant principal is accountable for upholding the educational policies and procedures of the local Catholic school and cooperates in providing an educational environment that promotes the mission of Catholic education. The assistant principal is a member of the administrative team. The annual performance review of the assistant principal will be conducted by the principal.
The duties of the assistant principal include but are not limited to:
- Implementing school mission, vision, philosophy and goals
- Cultivating a positive and inclusive school culture where the Catholic faith is integrated into all aspects of school life.
- Collaborating with the Principal to develop and implement a strategic vision for middle school education that reflects our Catholic identity and values.
- Providing instructional leadership and support to teachers, including coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional development opportunities.
- Leading initiatives to enhance teaching practices, curriculum development, and assessment strategies to meet the needs of our students.
- Fostering strong partnerships with parents, community members, and external stakeholders to support student success and promote family engagement.
- Communicating and conferring with the principal and administrative team on a regular basis
- Working with the principal on curriculum and student learning initiatives
- Supporting the implementation of behavior management and discipline policies in alignment with our Catholic values and educational mission.
- Assisting in the day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff, volunteers, and activities
- Helping to ensure a safe, pleasant, and effective educational atmosphere
- Assuming responsibility for completing assigned tasks and following through when needed.
- Acting in the principal’s absence
- Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies
- Assisting with planning of faculty and professional development days
- Maintaining confidentiality and discretion regarding students, personnel and school matters.
- Working with assigned organizations as a liaison for the school
- Representing the administration, faculty and school community as requested by the principal.
The principal assigns specific tasks essential to the function of the position.
Environmental and Physical Requirements:
The assistant principal is expected to supervise students and the safe environment of the school through regular site visits to classrooms and all other areas of the school. The assistant principal may be required to supervise and evaluate selected staff.
Experience
Required- State teacher certification
- Administrative Type 75 certification preferred
- Practicing Catholic
- Compliance with Safe Environment Requirements
Education
Required- Masters or better in Education/Administration or related field
