What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Director position at St. John Lutheran Home?
- Oversee daily dietary operations at St. John Lutheran Home and assist The Maples Assisted Living with dietary functions as needed.
- Manage dietary department operations, including staffing, scheduling, training, coaching, performance management, and employee development.
- Monitor department budget, labor costs, purchasing, inventory, food waste, and operational expenses.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee meal preparation and service to ensure quality, presentation, temperature, and resident satisfaction.
- Participate in menu planning, including resident preferences, substitutions, and therapeutic diet requirements.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations related to food safety, sanitation, and nutritional services.
- Maintain HACCP standards and oversee safe food receiving, storage, preparation, holding, and service practices.
- Collaborate with the Registered Dietitian and interdisciplinary team to support resident nutritional needs and care plans.
- Process diet orders and changes, maintain diet cards, complete assigned MDS documentation, and monitor residents' nutritional status.
- Support nutrition assessments, care planning, and interventions to promote positive resident outcomes.
- Maintain kitchen equipment, cleaning schedules, and department standards.
- Build positive working relationships with residents, families, staff, physicians, vendors, and other healthcare partners.
Qualifications:
- Certified Dietary Manager (CDM), Dietary Technician, nutrition-related degree, or completion of an approved food service management program.
- Ability to obtain CDM certification within one year of hire if not currently certified.
- ServSafe certification required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
- Long-term care food service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to motivate, coach, and supervise dietary team members.
- Computer skills and effective written and verbal communication skills preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in environments with hot and cold temperatures.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to interact positively with residents, staff, families, and the public.
Primary schedule is Monday through Friday, day shift. Flexibility to work hours outside of the regular day shift may be needed occasionally to ensure adequate staffing coverage and support department operations.
