DUTIES: The Assistant Director of Annual Giving plays an integral role in the planning and implementation process of the St. John's College Annual Giving Program. The Assistant Director is responsible for working collaboratively with the Director of Annual Giving to effectively implement and track a comprehensive Annual Giving program. Key objectives include the development and management of an effective philanthropic volunteer network, on-campus initiatives that involve managing student workers and developing student philanthropic initiatives, and operational oversight of stewardship and direct mail communications within the Annual Giving Program.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:Recruit, maintain, and motivate a network of philanthropically-driven volunteers to assist with annual giving campaigns and initiatives.Work in collaboration with Director of Annual Giving to create and deploy a network of student callers while developing a comprehensive training, outreach, and reporting plan in support of Annual Giving goals and initiatives.Oversight of student philanthropic education (the “Johnnie Way”) and giving initiatives to enhance a culture of philanthropy among current students while simultaneously driving growth and engagement in support of senior class giving initiatives.Maintain operational ownership of planned direct mail appeals and campaigns in collaboration with Director of Annual Giving and Communications team.Maintain operational ownership of Annual Fund stewardship processes to enhance donor retention and pipeline development.Assist Advancement Staff as needed with large-scale events on both campuses such as Homecoming, Family Weekend, the Annapolis Cup, etc.Regularly report out on programmatic effectiveness for areas within the scope of the position’s roles and responsibilities.Assist Director of Annual Giving with Alumni Association Board Giving Council partnership.Additional duties as needed in support of Annual Giving and Advancement operations.PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:Meet or exceed annual financial goals, and campaign/event specific goals.Demonstrate success in collaborating with staff, volunteers and officers of the college, particularly with regard to donor engagement and building a significantly enhanced college-wide annual fund effort bridging the college’s efforts to the next capital campaign.Grow and maintain a high-performing team of college-wide alumni giving volunteers with the support of Office of Alumni Engagement.Meet or exceed annual metrics for recruitment, retention, upgrade and lapsed-donor recapture.KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:Preferred minimum of 1-year full-time experience in philanthropy, with professional experience in communications, project management, annual giving or similar field.Bachelor's degree required.Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the university for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.Preferred experience supervising student or part-time staff.Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and maintaining personal accountability and sense of responsibility.Preferred proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office products with preference given to applicants with demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Suite products.Prior experience with Raiser's Edge NXT preferred.Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and solve problems.This role may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding and compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and values. While performing the duties of this job, the Assistant Director will be required to interact collaboratively with the team and stakeholders, and communicate via phone, videophone, or text messaging. The position may require travel up to 25%; preference given to candidates who are local/adjacent or willing to relocate to the Annapolis or Santa Fe areas.Annual Salary starts at $46,825 - $56,825.
