Custodial Assistant
Supervisor: Board of Church Properties and Director of Operations
Position Summary
St. James Church & School is seeking a dependable, organized, and mission-minded Facilities Assistant to oversee the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of all parish and school buildings and grounds. This position ensures that all facilities provide a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, parishioners, and visitors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with Facilities Director and other custodial staff to clean classrooms, offices, restrooms, sanctuary, cafeteria, and common areas are cleaned and prepared daily
- Monitor cleaning quality standards and provide accountability
- Maintain adequate custodial supply inventory and equipment
- Routine monitoring of landscaping, parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, and exterior maintenance to ensure grounds remain safe, attractive, and welcoming year-round (picking up trash, sticks, cob webs, etc.).
- Assist with setup and cleanup for church services, school events, meetings, weddings, funerals, and parish activities
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Some facilities, maintenance, or custodial experience preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work from ladders and lifts
- Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency calls
- Ability to work collaboratively within a church and school environment

Compensation & Classification
- Full-Time, Non-Exempt Position
- $17-$20/hour depending on experience
- Eligible for Company Benefits
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
