St. George Community Consolidated School District No. 258 is currently accepting applications for a HEAD COOK to work 8:00 AM – 1:15 PM on school days (Monday - Friday) when students are in session. St. George Community Consolidated School District No. 258 is a PreK-8th grade public school district located in Bourbonnais, Illinois. Duties:
- Assist the Director of Food Service in the planning and preparation of wholesome meals in accordance with the health and safety standards required by state and federal laws and regulations.
- Checks food shipments into the school, signs invoices after each order has been verified, and assists in the storage and shelving of such products.
- Ensures all equipment is functioning correctly at the start and end of each workday.
- Supervises and instructs cafeteria servers in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment and food safety.
- Directs and oversees the daily activities for food preparation by the cafeteria servers.
- Prepares food according to the planned menu and determines if the finished product is of the best quality in both flavor and appearance before serving.
- Assists in serving daily meals according to the printed menu, special dietary or nutritional requirements and adjust serving sizes upon request of the Director of Food Service.
- Portions food to students in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
- Communicates with the students regarding food selection.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date inventory in kitchen storeroom, refrigerators, and freezer spaces.
- Assume responsibility for storage and disposal of unused foods and documentation of both.
- Reports immediately problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen or cafeteria to the Director of Food Service.
- Assists with cleaning cafeteria tables and other eating areas before and after the serving of meals.
- Assists with washing service area, dishes, trays, pots/pans by hand, with sprayer and industrial dishwasher.
- Assists with sweeping and cleaning floors and general daily cleaning of kitchen.
- Reports any necessary equipment repair and maintenance to Director of Food Service.
- Complies with all county health rules and regulations including established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards.
- Observes proper food preparation and handling techniques.
- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Director of Food Service, Principal, and/or Administration.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma with experience in specific aspects of job functions and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with visitors, parents, students, teachers, staff, and other school and district administrators.
- Possess and maintain Food Service Manager certification.
- Must be familiar with food preparation including appliances, recipes, etc.
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 12 lbs.
