The Saint Gabriel Preschool Center was established in the Alexandria community in 1970 under the supervision of The Poor Sisters of Saint Joseph. Position Summary
St. Gabriel Preschool Center, a Catholic early childhood program serving children ages 2–5, is seeking a Lead Teacher to provide overall classroom leadership, instruction, and supervision in a faith-filled, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment.
The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a play-based curriculum, supporting children’s spiritual and developmental growth, supervising Assistant Teachers, and building strong partnerships with families in alignment with the mission of Catholic education.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum
- Integrate Catholic values and faith formation into daily classroom activities
- Provide leadership and supervision of the classroom and Assistant Teachers
- Ensure a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
- Observe, assess, and document student progress
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student development
- Maintain compliance with Virginia licensing standards (ratios, supervision, safety)
- Collaborate with staff and participate in meetings and professional development
Qualifications
- Meets Virginia VDOE requirements for Lead Teacher
- Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree with experience, or CDA with 1 years teaching experience
- Experience working with children ages 2–5
- Strong classroom management, communication, and leadership skills
- Commitment to supporting a Catholic, faith-based learning environment
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred
- Experience in a Catholic or faith-based school
- Experience leading a classroom and supervising assistants
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Position Details
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Pay: commensurate with education and experience
- Location: Alexandria, VA (in-person)
