Long-term Substitute Teacher, 3rd Grade

St. Francis Xavier Catholic School is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and caring Long-Term Substitute Teacher to join our outstanding elementary teaching team in a 3rd grade classroom for approximately the months of November-February.

Position Overview

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher will assume responsibility for the daily instruction, classroom management, and academic progress of 3rd grade students during the regular teacher's absence. The successful candidate will provide engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction while maintaining a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspire student learning by planning and delivering engaging lessons in core academic subjects, including reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and religion.
• Create a positive, Christ-centered classroom environment that promotes kindness, respect, responsibility, and a love of learning.
• Implement effective classroom management strategies that foster student independence, positive behavior, and a strong sense of community.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, and developmental needs of all learners.
• Assess student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and use assessment results to guide instruction.
• Communicate professionally and positively with parents, colleagues, and school administration regarding student learning and development.
• Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, specialists, and student support staff to ensure continuity of instruction and student success.
• Integrate educational technology, hands-on learning, and creative instructional strategies to promote student engagement.
• Support and participate in the Catholic identity of the school through classroom prayer, school liturgies, faith formation, and service opportunities.
• Uphold the mission, philosophy, policies, and professional standards of St. Francis Xavier Catholic School.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
• Minnesota teaching license appropriate for the assigned grade level, or eligibility to serve in the position under applicable Minnesota licensure requirements.
• Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Commitment to supporting St. Francis Xavier School's mission and Catholic identity.
• Successful completion of required background checks and child protection requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous elementary teaching experience, particularly in grades 2–4.
• Familiarity with research-based literacy instruction and the Science of Reading.
• Experience differentiating instruction and supporting students with diverse learning needs.
• Ability to use technology and assessment data effectively to support student learning.
• Experience teaching in a Catholic school or other faith-based educational setting.

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
