Position Overview
The Outreach Coordinator will help deepen St. Francis’s connections with the local community, nurture relationships with visitors and members, and support activities that strengthen the church’s presence in San Francisco. This role blends hands-on community engagement, communications, and relationship-building with occasional support for spiritual care and social justice initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Outreach
- Participate in Outreach Committee meetings 1-2x/month and contribute ideas to develop and refine outreach strategies and playbooks.
- Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, community partners, and residents in Duboce Triangle, the Castro and adjoining neighborhoods, including by spending time in area establishments.
- Attend Sunday morning worship services and church events to welcome and engage attendees, fostering a spirit of hospitality and connection.
- Help plan and lead outreach and congregational activities (approximately one every 3-6 weeks).
- Promote church events and initiatives through the congregation website, social media channels, printed materials, and personal invitations.
- Maintain engagement with the community by following up with first-time visitors, reconnecting with inactive members, and managing the church’s email database.
General
- Option to preach occasionally (e.g., every other month, if desired and qualified).
- Attend Sunday morning and festival worship services at least twice per month.
- Meet weekly with the Bridge Pastor (15–30 minutes) for planning and coordination.
Social Justice (Optional Component)
Depending on interest, experience, and available time, the Outreach Coordinator may also:
- Share information about social justice opportunities aligned with St. Francis’s values (e.g., Pride, MLK marches, peace vigils).
- Support or help organize community vigils and justice-focused collaborations.
- Assist in communication efforts related to advocacy, education, and interfaith partnerships.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Religious education or training in spiritual/pastoral care (preferred but not required).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; enjoy meeting new people and building.

- Experience with event coordination, outreach, and/or community engagement.
- Ability to think outside the box in developing new ways to achieve outreach objectives.
- Comfort with social media, email communication, and digital outreach tools.
