St. Francis Catholic Kindergarten & Nursery seeks a dependable, organized, and service-oriented candidate to assist in the preparation and service of meals and snacks for young children in our childcare center. The ideal candidate will be attentive to detail, maintain a clean and orderly environment, follow food safety regulations, and support a warm and nurturing atmosphere for children and staff.
This position plays an essential role in supporting our mission to provide a safe, faith-filled, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
Schedule
Part-Time
Monday–Friday
Hours to be determined (approximately 4–6 hours per day)
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Prepare and serve, lunch, and snacks in accordance with CACFP guidelines.
- Maintain accurate food production records and sanitation logs.
- Ensure compliance with all Health Department and childcare licensing food safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen at all times.
- Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, food prep surfaces, and equipment.
- Properly store food items and monitor expiration dates.
- Assist with inventory management and supply ordering.
- Take out trash and maintain overall cleanliness of kitchen and food storage areas.
- Interact with children and staff with courtesy, patience, and respect.
- Follow all policies and procedures as outlined by St. Francis Catholic Kindergarten & Nursery, the Diocese of Austin, Health and Human Services (Licensing), CACFP, and the Health Department to assure compliance for state certification and accreditation.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish, entrusted with making Christ’s mission present and enduring in the community. In order to fulfill this mission, the Pastor employs suitable collaborators who assist in extending his ministry.
All employees of St. Francis Catholic Kindergarten & Nursery help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in their job descriptions. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists in the performance of the Church’s ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Working Conditions
- All employees of St. Francis Catholic Kindergarten & Nursery are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
- The parish is an at-will employer.
- All buildings owned by the parish are tobacco free.
- Working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and meal schedules must be strictly followed.
- Exposure to religious ceremonies, conduct, and Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
- Required adherence to established dress codes, food safety standards, and conduct expectations.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Experience in food service, school cafeteria, or childcare kitchen preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to maintain required annual training hours as assigned.
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout employment.
