St. Francis International School (SFIS) is a regional Catholic school serving the Silver Spring/Hyattsville/College Park areas. SFIS serves a diverse community of students from age three through 8th grade at our beautiful campus located off New Hampshire Avenue inside the Beltway.
SFIS seeks a full-time assistant teacher to work in one of our full-day Pre-Kindergarten classrooms serving children 3 or 4 years of age.
Primary duties are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, beginning in August 2024 for the 2024-25 school year.
As assistant teacher, this position works with a full-time lead teacher in delivering high quality instruction to a class of 18 to 20 children every day. The daily instruction is based on the approved curriculum and is in line with the mission of the school to nurture children to become Instruments of God’s peace, scholars, and global citizens.
Ideal candidates will have a passion for working with young students, a desire to learn and grow as a para-educator, patience for all types of learners, a desire to assist and work with the lead teacher, the ability to work in a positive team environment, and a desire to cultivate the faith lives of our students.
At a minimum, candidates must be high school graduates, able to successfully complete a criminal background check, attend child protection training, and willing to participate in the Maryland Office of Child Care Credential system. An Associates degree or higher is very desirable.
Skill with a second language such as Spanish, French, Vietnamese, or Amharic is a plus. Additional employment opportunities through our extended school program (before and after care) as well as summer school may be available.
