Job Overview:

As a Lakota Immersion K-1 Teacher at St. Francis Indian School AKA Sicangu Oyate Ho Inc. in St. Francis SD, you will play a crucial role in our mission to provide a culturally rich and academically rigorous education to our students. You will be responsible for creating a nurturing and immersive learning environment where young children can develop their language skills and cultural awareness through a combination of Lakota language instruction and traditional teaching methods.

Your Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging and interactive lessons that incorporate Lakota language and culture into the curriculum
• Assess student progress and provide individualized support to ensure academic success
• Collaborate with fellow Lakota Immersion K-1 Teachers and school staff to create a cohesive and effective learning environment
• Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student achievement and progress
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your teaching skills and knowledge of Lakota language and culture

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
• Valid teaching certification
• Fluency in Lakota language or willingness to learn
• Experience working with young children, preferably in a multicultural or Indigenous community
• Passion for teaching and preserving Lakota language and culture
