PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Medical Assistant Intern (MA Intern) will be trained to become a Medical Assistant. During training this position will perform all duties while under supervision. The MA Intern is responsible for compliance with all OSHA/CLIA and HIPAA regulations and ensuring completion of all duties vital to business operations. The MA Intern is a highly visible position that is always responsible for creating a positive impression with patients, family members, and other visitors to the office.
REQUIREMENTS
A signed Work/Training Agreement upon acceptance into the program, committing to giving back one year of employment back to SEP.
TRAINING OVERVIEW
- The training program is 10 weeks, full time.
- 4 weeks of classroom training; 8a-4:30p daily
- 6 weeks of training in an office with a designated preceptor.
- 1 day for a final skills assessment and competency check off.
- SEP will cover training expenses such as education materials and a stethoscope.
- Interns are considered SEP employees and are paid during training.
- Upon completion of the training program and successfully passing the skills and competency assessment, the MA Intern will become an MA.
- Class size is currently limited to 16 associates per session.
EDUCATION:
Minimum: H.S. Diploma/GED
Successful completion of SEP training program required to maintain employment
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Internal Candidates: PSR or Phlebotomist with SEP; at least 1 year of work experience (Waiving one year in current role if staying in same office)
External Candidates: 1 year of work experience (excluding non-paid externships)
Preferred: CNA vocational school or other healthcare experience
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Ability to learn other computer skills.
- Must have good organizational skills and work professionally with doctors, hospital administration and management, SEP employees and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team-based decision-making culture.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently resulting in effective outcomes and on-time performance.
- Experience in planning and coordinating multi-disciplinary communications strategies, strategic initiatives, and events.
- Must respond and follow through to requests from customers promptly.

- Performs duties willingly and with initiative. Shares necessary information so co-workers can do the same.
- Cooperates with other departments and work groups.
LICENSES
Direct communication with a patient in a language other than English requires the associate to complete an assessment to become Qualified Bilingual Staff (QBS). The associate is required to complete CBLs and future assessments to maintain QBS status.
CLINICAL TRAINING:
Training may vary by practice and could include any or all of the following:
- Obtaining vital signs (manual blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature)
- Assisting providers with exams and procedures
- Administering injections and immunizations
- Performing EKG and other essential laboratory procedures
- Collecting patient samples (fingerstick, throat/nose swabs, urine)
- Answer and triage patient phone calls and questions
Salary : $32,900 - $41,700
