What are the responsibilities and job description for the DSP/Life Assistant 7:00am - 3:00pm (40hrs biweekly) position at St. Edmond's Home for Children?
Primary Purpose of Job
Inspired by love and supporting the dignity and quality of life for each individual, skilled professional staff will provide an exceptional holistic outcome oriented plan of care for Adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, providing supports so they can make meaningful life choices and be valued, contributing members of their communities.
To create a healthy, engaging, typical home for individuals with intellectual disabilities and supports and assists individuals in all areas of their daily life.
*This is a part-time working from 7:00am – 3:00pm (40hrs biweekly), is located in Newtown Square, PA and requires having a valid Driver’s License.*
Schedule:
- Week 1: Monday & Friday (7:00am - 3:00pm)
- Week 2: Saturday, Sunday & Monday (7:00am - 3:00pm)
Location: St Edmond's Community Home located in Newtown Square, PA
Essential Job Functions:
- Support and assists individuals in all areas of their daily life, including but not limited to personal appearance, laundry, menu planning, grocery shopping, home cleaning, communication skills, and personal hygiene.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records including daily logs, mileage, individual files, and incident reports.
- Provide transportation within the community and to medical appointments as necessary and ensure their safety in the community.
- Follow established schedules for individuals supported in the program.
- Support individuals to achieve their highest level of independence, make decisions, and live a meaningful dignified life with valued social roles (ex: friend, neighbor, employee.)
- Complete training on Medication Administration.
- Attend Individual Support Plan (ISP) meetings and all other meetings pertaining to the ISP of the individual supported.
- Maintain open and focused communication with team members regarding goals of program participants.
- Promote and advocate for the health and wellness of the individuals supported.
- Provide behavioral support as needed.
- Act as a positive role model for the individuals served.
- Displays knowledge of the emergency plans and assists individuals to their ability during a fire, tornado or other emergency situation.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must have a valid Driver's License (must have 5 year clean driving record.)
- Must have the ability and willingness to travel to off-site locations using company vehicles.
- Must be able to successfully pass Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, Department of Human Services FBI Clearance, Adult Protective Services background check.
