Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
The PBX Operator is responsible for answering and connecting incoming calls to appropriate extensions or parties, and paging SDGH personnel/departments as required. Additionally, the Operator initiates communication procedures in the event of an emergency or code.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Skills
a. Demonstrates ability to provide all telephone operations.
b. Demonstrates ability to respond to emergency situations.
c. Proficient in response protocol for reports of emergency alarms (medical gas, code blue, fire).
d. Demonstrates good problem solving skills through resource management.
e. Uses computer competently.
2. Productivity - Possess organizational skills, including the following.
a. Uses lines of authority appropriately. Formulates and use effective working relationships with all healthcare team members, patients and visitors.
b. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights and confidentiality as identified, within the institution.
c. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
d. Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision-making, and seek guidance in areas of question.
e. Demonstrates professionalism necessary to function in the healthcare environment. Dresses in a professional manner at all time.
f. Performs skills proficiently and in accordance with the department standards
g. Utilizes all equipment in the department appropriate to job with maximum efficiency and effectiveness based on knowledge and education
h. Assists, teaches, and serves as a resource person in accordance with the competency level of all team members
i. Serves as point of contact for initiation of appropriate emergency communication procedures and alarm signals such as fire, bomb threat, weather threat, missing baby or patient, disasters, and cardiac arrest. Shows thorough knowledge of all code/alarm procedures.
j. Employee’s conduct must reflect the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
3. Communication
a. Displays a positive attitude toward patients, physicians, coworkers and visitors.
b. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills.
c. Utilizes assigned scripting.
4. Safety
a. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues, which promote SGDH Risk Management Program.
5. Professionalism
a. Responds appropriately to callers. (Using assigned scripting)
b. Conducts themselves in a professional manner with evidence of good health, and grooming.
6. Employee’s conduct must reflect the company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct, ethics and compliance program.
7. Adheres and upholds all service behaviors as listed in the I CARE value commitment and other departmental initiatives.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
What qualifications you will need:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: None
Preferred: High School diploma/GED. Previous experience as a PBX Operator preferred.
