What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Extern position at St. Claire HealthCare?
The Dental Extern is accountable for providing assistance and performing basic procedures under supervision upon validation of successful clinical training and competency. They can only be delegated tasks for which they have had successful clinical training through their dental program and have received validation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists Dental Assistants with the dental oral radiography process, focusing on proper patient positioning.
- Packages and sterilizes instruments according to policy and procedure and prepares instruments to be sent to SPD for sterilization if applicable.
- Makes referral and/or consult appointments and schedules patients for outpatient procedures, obtaining pre-authorizations and/or pre-certifications for insurance purposes as appropriate.
- Uses Dental Software to maintain patient records and schedule appointments.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent; Active enrollment in dental assisting program
