Job Summary – About the Role
Assist with enhancing the physical appearance and experience of the Park District for residents and visitors to our parks and facilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
This position is well suited for someone with a pleasant personality. Must be reliable and show initiative, tact, and productivity.
Required: High school graduate. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to learn the proper use of hand tools, grounds equipment and operation of trucks and tractors. Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during games and events. A valid driver’s license is required. Must have or maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification and Mandated Reporter certification within 30 days of hire.
Essential Functions of the Position
Park District Cornerstones
- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with Park District policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Planning, the Assistant Superintendent of Parks and the Turf Coordinators, the Turf Associate is responsible for promoting a safe environment in all parks and facilities. The Turf Associate shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Operate motor equipment as needed or required.
- Empty garbage and litter pick the facility.
- Assist with athletic field preparation/repair.
- Assist with basic irrigation repairs.
- Maintain turf areas throughout the Park District.
- Be able to respond and assist with medical incidents.
- Ensure safety in the parks and enforce all of the Park Districts Ordinances, Rules and Policies.
- Maintain a good relationship with all of the Districts User Groups.
- Basic machine maintenance duties.
- Lock up the facility nightly.
- Patrol the facility.
Marginal Functions of the Position
- Assist with ice rink maintenance.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Assist with special events in other Park District facilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Willingly work over and above required daily hours when necessary.
