GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Deliver family based counseling and supportive services to client and families, to include individual, group and family counseling. Following the St. Charles philosophy, this position will work closely with the youth and family, other Level II staff, community resources, schools and the Department of Youth & Family Services to implement strength based family services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Conduct and interpret assessment, psychosocial evaluation and assessment of children, adolescents and adults, family systems and subsystems; to work effectively with behavioral, emotional and learning disorders of children and adolescents and become familiar with current diagnostic testing and criteria for psychiatric disorders.
  • Coordinate monthly parent support groups based on assessment results.
  • Identify and utilize local community resources for client families and children, coordinate with intra-agency and inter-agency resources the delivery of services and treatment planning.
  • Provide direct services to smaller caseload including referral, intake and assessment, crisis intervention and liaison between clients, families and agency.
  • Plan and facilitate Level II In-Home groups according to program requirements as needed.
  • Provide written documentation to include progress notes, the completion of formal written service program summaries, recommendations, service plans, and court reports.
  • Support and complete other program function as needed.
  • Represent agency at court, school, and other community resources as needed.
  • Supports the goals of the agency mission/vision.
  • Prepare all documentation according to time frames.
  • Adheres to St. Charles Youth & Family Services Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related field required.
  • Licensed by the State of WI as an LPC-IT, LPC, LCSW, or LMFT or related licensure required.
  • Knowledge base of adolescent and family issues and dynamics.
  • Knowledge of the Wisconsin Children’s Code and juvenile justice systems.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal statutes and regulations, guidelines, practices and policies relevant to or specifically applicable to their specific role and the operation of youth programs, out of home placement of children, abuse and neglect reporting procedures and requirements, termination of parental rights and children in need of protective services and the educational system.
  • Knowledge of Milwaukee County (Department of Youth& Family Services), Milwaukee Public Schools, and Milwaukee community based youth serving agencies.)
  • Knowledge of human growth and development theories.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care philosophy and practices.
  • Ability to perform tasks using MS Windows, Microsoft, agency’s database system and other computer applications in a timely manner.
  • Ability to display cultural competence and sensitivity to the populations we service by responding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, socioeconomic characteristics, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and other diversity factors.
  • Ability to conduct and coordinate individual, family and group therapy sessions utilizing home, community and institution based resources; and techniques, strategies and interventions for delivery of home based family services.
  • Ability to prepare formal reports.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and liability insurance.
  • Ability to use vehicles, including own for work related duties according to the agency’s insurance liability standards.
  • Ability to accurately perform record keeping and documentation entries.
  • Preferred: Bilingual

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Indoor/outdoor requirements (including client homes, court & schools).
  • Potential for physical intervention of clients as needed.
  • Travel 50% approximately using company vehicle.
