DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The facilities team provides a safe, comfortable healing environment for our patients, visitors and caregivers by keeping the facility in peak operational condition.

POSITION OVERVIEW The Plumber is responsible to oversee, trouble shoot and perform skilled maintenance and repairs on the physical structure and associated equipment of the hospital. This position assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water and drainages systems in order to maintain St. Charles Health System.

This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on plumbing and other mechanical equipment.

Installs pipe systems, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.

Plans pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.

Completes preventative and corrective maintenance on all facilities-related equipment, systems, and infrastructure.

Identifies maintenance risks on equipment.

Diagnoses electrical and mechanical faults of systems.

Performs mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming.

Ensures compliance with all hospital, local and state standards.

Maintains daily logs and records for all systems.

Responds and performs emergency repairs promptly.

Ensures compliance of all applicable standards, policies, or procedures, such as safety procedures.

Studies blueprints, design specifications, or manufacturers' recommendations to ascertain the configuration of heating or cooling equipment components. Reviews building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures.

Estimates, orders, pick up, delivers, and install materials and supplies to maintain equipment in good working condition.

Inspects, examines, or tests installed systems or pipe lines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.

Attaches pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment. Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment, using hand or power tools.

Selects pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports, hangers, or hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.

Assembles pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment.

Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers or water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools.

Installs automatic controls to regulate pipe systems.

Shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.

Keeps records of work assignments.

Directs helpers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly, or installation of plumbing systems or components.

Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.

Maintains or repairs plumbing by replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, or opening clogged drains.

Locates and marks the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels.

Reviews blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures.

Anchors steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.

Estimates time, material, or labor costs for use in project plans.

Installs underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and plumbing.

Inspects structures to assess material or equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, or to plan installation around obstructions, such as electrical wiring.

Installs green plumbing equipment, such as faucet flow restrictors, dual-flush or pressure-assisted flush toilets, or tankless hot water heaters.

Cuts openings in structures to accommodate pipes or pipe fittings, using hand or power tools.

Inspects work sites for obstructions or holes that could cause structural weakness.

Installs fixtures, appliances, or equipment designed to reduce water or energy consumption.

Installs pipe systems to support alternative energy-fueled systems, such as geothermal heating or cooling systems.

Welds small pipes or special piping, using specialized techniques, equipment, or materials, such as computer-assisted welding or microchip fabrication.

Operates motorized pumps to remove water from flooded manholes, basements, or facility floors.

Repairs hydraulic or air pumps.

Repairs or remove and replace system components.

Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma or GED.

Preferred: Certification from a recognized trade school or military training program

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required:

Journeyman plumbing certification issued by State of Oregon.

Valid Oregon driver license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.

Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites

Preferred:

Boiler Class Three or above issued by the State of Oregon

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

2 years of facilities and plant operations experience. (including experience operating boilers of 100 psi or above and chiller plants)

1 year electrical, electronic, plumbing, and/or refrigeration work experience.

Journeyman level electrical, plumbing or HVAC/R license may be substituted for up to 4 years of required facilities/plant experience.

Preferred:

1 year of hospital maintenance experience.

Military Facilities/Engineering Plant-related training and experience.

Experience with electronic DDC controls systems.
