Job Overview
The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) provides direct peer-to-peer support services to individuals who have substance abuse or co-occurring disorders. As an advocate for patients, the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist will be responsible for providing essential expertise and consultation to the entire multidisciplinary treatment team to promote a culture in which each individual's treatment needs and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.
Responsibilities
Assists individuals in developing problem-solving skills to respond to challenging experiences in their recovery.
Models effective coping and self-help strategies and techniques to individuals or groups of patients to overcome personal fears, anxieties, urges, and triggers.
Assists/supports individuals in daily decision making, resolution of minor problems, and crisis intervention as necessary.
Assists individuals in identifying their personal goals and objectives for recovery and sobriety.
Assists other staff in a collaborative process of identifying programs and environments that are conducive to recovery.
Assists individuals in creating their personal recovery plans.
Meets with individuals to provide advice and support in accordance with treatment plans.
Facilitates peer support groups and recovery-oriented activities.
Maintains confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions.
Participates in continuous training and supervision to enhance professional development.
