Summary:
St. Catherine's Center for Children is seeking a Residential Clinician to coordinate and implement mental health treatment for children in our residential care programs. The Residential Clinician reports to the Director of Clinical Services and is assigned a caseload consisting of children from one or more of our three residences (depending on census). The Residential Clinician provides mental health treatment to the child and their family; acts as a liaison between child, family, school, the treatment team including clinical consultants and residential child care staff, and the referring agency; and completes clinical documentation as required by SCCC and by its regulating agencies.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Functions as leader of the child's treatment team and provides clinical treatment as planned by the treatment team including, but not limited to, family therapy, individual psychotherapy, and group therapy.
- Acts as liaison with the family; arranges clinically supervised child/family visitation and clinically supervises visits when necessary, represents and articulates family issues to the other team members (including other clinical staff, child care staff, and teachers), secures signed releases and consents from the family or agency of legal custody regarding clinical information sharing.
- Maintains regular contact with the Day Treatment School Social Worker to share information about their clients. When a client is enrolled in a school other than SCCC Day treatment, the clinician will maintain sufficient contact with that school to ensure the child is benefiting from optimum educational placement. The Residential Clinician will also participate in CSE meetings and maintain contact with SCCC and CSE chairperson.
- Acts as liaison with child care staff through participation on the treatment team, and at treatment reviews, service plan reviews, medication reviews, and staff meetings.
- Acts as liaison for clinical matters with the referring agency.
- Documents treatment processes as required by SCCC and by its regulating agencies including progress notes, treatment summaries, assessments, etc.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Clinical Director.
Organizational Relationships:
The Residential Social Worker is directly responsible to, and is supervised by, the Director of Residential Clinical Services. (The Social Worker does not supervise any paid staff within the agency.)
The Social Worker is accountable to the child’s treatment team for the provision of updated progress reports regarding therapy of children and families. The Social Worker as case planner relates to referral agencies, Departments of Social Services Case Managers, Courts, schools, and other agencies collaborating on each case. In addition, the Social Worker communicates all information regarding outside agency decisions to the Treatment Team.
Position Specifications:
Master’s degree in Social Work (M.S.W.), Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or related discipline from an accredited Program is required.
Current and valid licensure as an LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT or valid Limited Permit is required.
One year of experience working with children who exhibit significant emotional, behavioral and interpersonal challenges, mental health diagnoses and trauma history.
A professional record of integrity and strong advocacy for children.
Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Must have the ability to pass required pre-employment background checks.
