JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Skill and proficiency in applying the principles, concepts and techniques which are central to managing a major department in a hospital setting. Knowledge of basic business concepts necessary to manage, schedule, counsel and assist in directing the department. A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years management experience is required.
Experience
Knowledge of management principles and procedures as acquired though three years of experience in management. One year in a janitorial department similar to SBMC is helpful but not required. Must have knowledge of computers. Must have two years experience in hospital, nursing home and/or hotel laundry. Knowledge of purchasing/receiving, inventory control and budget process. Knowledge of laundry equipment, linen and laundry chemicals.

Normal hospital environment. Occasional exposure to heat, steam and cold. Normal/corrected eyesight. Hearing within normal range. Distinguish smells. Distinguish temperatures by touch and proximity. Uses computer, telephone, copier, floor maintenance equipment and janitorial supplies. Frequent walking, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds. Requires constant mobility, sight, hearing and verbal communications. Exposure to disagreeable elements (odors, heavy soil linen, lint, etc.)
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of EVS and Laundry is a member of the leadership team that provides high quality service to all customers within budgetary guidelines. Coordinates all functions to maintain an efficient operation with quality outcomes. Supervises the Environmental Services staff and managers and assures compliance with procedures, mission and standards. Strong critical thinking, effective analytical skills, and problem solving abilities required. Ability to manage competing priorities, multi-task with results oriented outcomes and work in a fast paced environment. Routinely assigns and responsibly directs staff and managers. The Director should have a knowledge of the budget as well as On Base. The Director is able to utilize independent judgment. The Director will work closely with Facilities Management on special and construction projects as required.
