JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
High School diploma plus a minimum of three years’ experience in an office or retail setting requiring customer interaction, communication, negotiation, problem solving, and attention to detail. An associates or bachelors’ degree in a related field will be considered in lieu of experience. Healthcare specific experience would be preferred, but not required. Detailed “on-the-job” training will be provided.
Experience
Must be able to work independently while coordinating multiple projects. Must be able to communicate cordially, accurately, and effectively with co-workers, St. Bernards’ departments, clinics, and vendors. Must develop and maintain an understanding of inventory management, distribution, and procurement’s interaction with Accounting. Must have the ability to learn and effectively utilize a complex procurement and inventory management system as well as other required systems which support the procurement function. Organizational skills, problems solving skills, and the ability to prioritize are critical. Must demonstrate a commitment to the tenants of S.E.R.V.E. with the goal of supporting excellent patient care
Physical
Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Frequently exposed to marked changes in temperatures. Minimal lifting and carrying up to 5 lbs. Long periods of continuous sitting.
JOB SUMMARY
The Buyer is responsible for the procurement of supplies, equipment, and services within authorized limits and in accordance with corporate policies and procedures. The Buyer must monitor compliance with approved Group Purchasing Organization and Aggregation Group contracts with a focus on quality, cost reduction, and excellent patient care. The Buyer accurately processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders using the most efficient method available based on individual vendor capability. The Buyer must develop and maintain a working knowledge of vendors, contracts, products, and the supply needs of St. Bernards internal customers. The Buyer actively searches out opportunities for contract compliance, standardization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements.
