**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a skilled Facilities Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our facilities to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance
- Performs and assists with carpentry, plumbing, painting, plastering, mechanical and electrical work.
- Paints walls, furniture and exteriors.
- Repairs toilets, plumbing fixtures
- Repairs cabinets, desks and tables.
- Cleaning the gutters Spring and Fall.
- Assists with the installation of air conditioners, repairs switches, replaces fuses, tests equipment.
- Operates power and hand tools such as drills, saws, cutters, and hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, saws, shovels, snow blower and other miscellaneous tools.
- Maintains work area in clean and orderly condition as well as tools and equipment.
- Checks daily the operation of heating and/or cooling systems.
- Checks daily building, grounds and facilities for damage, malfunctions, etc.
- Monitors all safety hazards and takes remedial action to ensure correction.
- Insures that walkways, parking lots, and common areas are free of snow, properly salted, and properly lighted.
- Monitors and responds to all alarm systems, e.g. fire, burglar, etc. within all the sites. May be called to respond any day of the week or hour.
- Maintains grounds, picks up branches, garbage, cleans drains, erects and repairs fencing, trims branches.
- Performs maintenance on roof such as burn tar, clean drains, and repairs leaks.
- Installs and repairs locks on doors.
- Works with ladders.
- Maintains and repairs overhead doors.
- Responsible for all inside and outside building and grounds repairs.
- Responds to work orders generated by office staff.
- Replace light bulbs in school, rectory, catholic charities
- Fix kneelers in the church
- Hang banners as needed in school and church
- Fix window shades in school
- Set up cafeteria for special meetings/events.
- Take Diocesan inspectors through the school, rectory and catholic charities
- Set up for Funerals
- Daily repairs in school as needed and requested by teachers and principal
Custodial
- Removes snow
- Sweeps and mops floors and stairwells.
- Dusts.
- Vacuums floors.
- Cleans all bathrooms.
- Checks and replenishes supplies of paper towels, toilet tissue and soap.
- Cleans glass doors.
- Wipes down office doors.
- Removes garbage from the building.
- Keeps supply room and slop rooms neat and orderly.
- Keeps outside doorways clean.
- Locks up the building when required.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Good knowledge of the maintenance and repair of machinery, plumbing, fixtures and equipment
- Ability to make repairs and adjustments to a variety of mechanical equipment
- Ability to understand and follow routine oral and written instructions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Practical problem solving abilities
- Industrious and dependable
- Knowledge of computer and ability to utilize word processing programs
- Possess good time management skills
- Flexibility with work schedule
- Ability to work independently as well as in conjunction with other staff members and members of the team.
- Valid New York State driver’s license, New York automobile insurance.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Preferred: Trade school certification and 1-3 years of building maintenance experience
Minimum: High school diploma and prior experience in one of the skilled trades – electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc. and one to three years of maintenance experience
