What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Information Management Manager position at St. Barnabas?
- Prepares and maintains a variety of Departmental reports and records.
- Supervises correspondence staff.
- Maintains and assures that all records are accurate and conform to hospital accreditation standards of the JCAHO and New York State Department of Health.
- Provides daily update to Director of Health Information Management on activities, issues and problems.
- Provides reports on status of chart completion and other required items for the Medical Record Committee.
- Works as Director of Health Information Management in his/her absence.
- Maintains quality work to assure timely completion of workload and adherence to standards of quality control.
- In conjunction with the Director of Health Information Management reviews and evaluates existing systems, methodologies, policies and/or procedures; develops, recommends and implements or guides and/or modifies system policies.
- Assists the Director of Health Information Management in preparing and controlling Departmental Budget.
- Maintains adequate inventory of equipment and supplies and initiates requisitions, as needed.
- In conjunction with the Director of Health Information Management performs a variety of supervisory and managerial functions:
A. Assigns and distributes work to staff.
B. Monitors employee performance to ensure standards are maintained.
C. Prepare employee performance evaluations.
D. Resolves routine complaints and disciplines employees as required.
E. Provides In-Service training to all Personnel.
F. Interviews applicants and recommend individuals for hire.
G. Performs related and other departmental duties as required.
Qualifications:
A. Education Required – Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management and/or equivalent work experience related to roles/responsibilities described above.
B. License(s) Required – Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
C. Experience/Skills Required – Minimum of 3 years of HIM experience within an acute hospital setting in the domains of Release of Information, Deficiency analysis, and HIM Chart Correction; Epic certifications in HIM Deficiency, Release of Information and Identity preferred. Elite communication, coaching and organizational skills required.
