St. Anne’s School of Annapolis is hiring a part-time Upper School Band Teacher who will instruct, guide, and supervise children in a warm, nurturing environment that is student centered and supports differentiated instruction. With the support of the Director of Music and the Head of Upper School, this teacher will establish a safe and caring classroom community in which each child’s strengths, opinions, actions, and thoughts are valued. Duties And Responsibilities
- Teach 5 th /6 th Advanced Band and 7 th /8 th Advanced Band (approximately 10 hours per week)
- Prepare for and lead performances at the Winter Concert and Spring Concert
- Ability to teach all band instruments, and to play them at a basic level
- Cultivate music literacy skills in students while introducing a variety of different instruments and genres of music
- Be able to play piano and sing
- Be familiar with band instrumentation
- Lead band ensembles
- Maintain proactive communication with parents about student progress, including through parent-teacher conferences, report cards, and portfolio conferences
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events outside the life of the classroom
- Complete lunch, recess, and other duties as assigned
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Music as well as colleagues and administrators to ensure each child’s success
- Embrace the St. Anne’s School mission and educational philosophy
- 3 years teaching middle school music, preferably in an independent school setting
- Bachelor’s Degree in music or related field; Master's Degree preferred
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills
- Knowledge of current research and best practices in brain-based teaching and learning
- Experience with the Responsive Classroom or Developmental Designs approach and project-based curriculum and assessments are a plus
