Position Summary
The Security Manager is responsible for the physical safety and security of our campuses, including people and property. The Security Manager establishes, manages and enforces safety and security policies in accordance with best practices for School security, maintaining up-to-date knowledge, including but not limited to access control; accident prevention; risk management; safety procedures; emergency management; asset protection; and traffic and parking control.
Position Responsibilities
Supervises, instructs, schedules, trains, coordinates, manages and documents the activities and performance of all security officers including internal security staff and contract security personnel.
Provides for continuous monitoring of campus property including security inspections of all doors, windows and gates. Establishes and monitors routes, patrols and inspections for security personnel.
Patrols campus and works as part of the security team to ensure adequate security coverage, traffic management, safety of students,employees and visitors, and protection of assets.
Proactively monitors the master school calendar to ensure appropriate security coverage, monitors and arranges shift activities according to the needs of the school, and makes necessary changes to the schedule.
Ensures appropriate security coverage for both school campuses, all student activities, athletic events, and other school functions.
Responds to requests related to safety and security by School Administrators, parents, and other visitors to the School.
Conducts investigations and creates incident reports of all incidents involving the security and safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors including thefts, threats, break-ins, property damage and injuries on campus within 24 hours of the incident.
Recommends, develops, and implements improvements to procedures, equipment, and systems that are appropriate in our school setting and culture.
Evaluates trends, best practices, evolving threats, risks and vulnerabilities and applies tools and procedures to mitigate risks.
Develops and implements appropriate emergency management plans. Works cooperatively with personnel involved in the threat management plan in academic arenas, schedules and conducts safety exercises and drills to enhance awareness and capacity to respond to emergency and crisis situations.
Responsible for school safety compliance with federal, state, and local safety and security regulations by studying existing and new requirements, overseeing and working with the administration to enforce school-wide adherence to requirements.
Operates and monitors all appropriate control panels, alarms and all related security equipment.
Frequently checks fire and security systems for proper operation. Must be able to troubleshoot and correct minor difficulties. Responds to all alarms.
Maintains, implements, and oversees all security-related technology, including cameras, building access control, campus access control and communication equipment (including phone systems, phone apps, two-way radios, intercoms, and emergency broadcast systems).
Provides support for the Visitor Management System and periodically directs and/or escorts visitors to campus locations. Responds to all exceptions reported by VMS.
Oversees the procurement and maintenance of emergency supplies
Develops strong ongoing relationships with local law enforcement and serves as the School's liaison with local law enforcement and emergency management agencies
Maintains contact and is accessible to School Administrators during both regular work hours and after hours. Serves as a primary contact for the School's emergency call list. (24 hours/ 7 days)
Serves as the primary contact / responder for campus security system provider.
Oversees and manages the budget for the security department and provides feedback on the creation of annual and long-range budgets

Required Knowledge and Abilities
Minimum of high school diploma plus 7 years of law enforcement and/or military security background; Preferred Associates or Bachelors degree in a related field and School Resource Officer experience or School Campus Security experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 3 years experience managing and supervising security personnel
Proven problem recognition and problem-solving abilities
Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Internet, e-mail, database, spreadsheet, and word processing
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Have excellent integrity, demonstrated high moral character and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to make decisions quickly and operate independently in an emergency situation
Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED
Valid state driver's license
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines, and time pressures
Work regularly requires sustained concentration
Work requires considerable physical effort or manual dexterity
Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and to observe more distant objects
Ability to do considerable walking in order to make rounds of facilities
Sufficient stamina to lift up to 50 lbs and work outside in inclement weather conditions when required
Must be available to work nights and weekends, as needed
