Position Summary: The parishes of St. Michael, Church of the Resurrection, and St. Anne are seeking a detail-oriented and trustworthy Parish Accountant to support the financial operations of our Catholic parishes. This position plays a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting donation accounting, and ensuring compliance with both church policy and diocesan guidelines. The successful candidate will align with the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting and Bookkeeping:
- Record day-to-day financial transactions in accounting software.
- Maintain general ledger and assist with monthly reconciliations.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including check preparation and deposits.
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts.
- Maintain financial records and documentation in an organized and auditable format.
Reporting and Budgeting:
- Assist the Finance Director with preparation of financial reports.
- Support the annual budgeting process and provide updates on budget performance.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure financial operations comply with diocesan policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial and personnel information.
Administrative Support:
- Support fundraising and development tracking (e.g., donations, event income).
- Assist with payroll preparation and employee records (if applicable).
- Handle general Parish office tasks: recruit, train and encourage money counters; assist with parish mailings; participate as part of cooperative parish ministry team.
- Be engaged in and knowledgeable of various aspects of parish life.
- Assist with annual contribution statements for parishioners.
- Assist with inventory, ordering office supplies and other parish purchases. Work with maintenance supervisor and Building and Grounds Committee regarding repairs and maintenance problems or purchases.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Finance Director.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, ParishSOFT or similar), MS Excel, and Word.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Discretion and commitment to confidentiality.
Terms of Employment: The Parish Accountant is an hourly position based upon 40 hours per week. Wages and Benefits as established by the Diocese and determined by the Pastor in consultation with the Finance Council.
The parishes are willing to discuss part-time or job-sharing options with qualified candidates.
