Title: Bilingual Paraprofessional Reports to: EL Coordinator Status: Full-Time
Position Goal
To provide support that focuses on the academic development of English language learner students.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructional Support: Under the supervision of a licensed teacher, prepares for classroom activities and works with small groups of students to reinforce material assigned by the teacher.
- Student Guidance: Helps students with instructional materials and guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Classroom Assistance: Assists teachers with non-instructional classroom duties, checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work.
- Communication & Interpretation: Completes interpretation and/or translations as needed by the district, including both verbal and written when time is allotted within the working day.
- Parental Liaison: Contacts parents as requested by classroom teachers and/or district staff members.
- Supervision: Assists with the supervision of students in all school-directed activities as assigned and maintains a safe learning environment by enforcing all school and classroom expectations.
- Assessment: Assists with district testing, including benchmark and state assessments.
- Professionalism: Maintains the same level of confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified teachers.
- Support Services: Serves as a source of information/assistance for substitute teachers.
- Crisis Intervention: Obtains and maintains appropriate certification in crisis intervention and implements appropriate strategies when trained.
- Professional Development: Participates in professional development programs.
- Other Duties: Performs such tasks as may be assigned by a Principal and/or the EL Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Certification: Must hold a valid Illinois State Paraprofessional Certificate.
- Language Skills: Bilingual in Spanish/English with strong verbal and written skills in both languages.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs and have the ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
Employment Terms
- Work Hours: During School Hours, to be set by the EL Coordinator.
Salary: Minimum starting salary of $17.00 per hour, negotiable based on experience.
