We are seeking to hire a Contemporary Music Director to join our team here at St Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church . Expected Outcomes of Position:
- Leads a diversely gifted worship team of musicians who dedicate themselves to helping the congregation give glory and honor to God
- Recruits and inspires new people to share their musical gifts in worship
- Chooses a variety of musical selections and styles which fit the weekly themes or liturgical seasons
- Inspires the congregation to sing
Important Characteristics:
- A person of solid faith who feels called to lead music and serve God with his/her musical gifts
- Has the ability and confidence to lead effectively; praying with and connecting with the congregation to create a worshipful space
- Has ability to lead the music in services as both a lead vocalist and instrumentalist
- Has the musical skills to arrange/transpose/transcribe songs when necessary
- Has experience in or willingness to learn Multi Tracks, Pro Presenter, Planning Center and Google Docs
- Has technical, organizational and communication skills needed to lead a team of lay and professional musicians in rehearsal and preparation for worship
- Has technical knowledge related to sound equipment/acoustics/emails/texting
- Easy to work with: relationship builder, team player, positive attitude
- Reliable and responsible
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Director of Music
- Responsible for all music at the Contemporary worship service
- Supervises, recruits, develops and leads a team of both instrumentalists and singers
- Schedules adequate rehearsal times and chooses quality music that fits the abilities of the music team
- Uses knowledge, creativity, and prior experiences to help shape worship experience
- Recruits both singers and instrumentalist volunteers from the congregation
- Oversees copyright licensing and compliance
- Prepares an annual budget
- Ensures that the lyric presentation of all congregational songs is presented to the production coordinator in a timely manner allowing for multimedia/visual preparation prior to worship services
- Supports the development of a youth praise band program
- Attends required staff meetings
Education and Experience:
- Music degree preferred but not required
- Prior experience leading music in a contemporary worship setting recommended
