Director of Public Safety

St. Ambrose University is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Director of Public Safety. This position oversees all campus safety operations, supervises an Associate Director and Public Safety Officers, and ensures a safe, welcoming, and compliant environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise Public Safety staff, including an Associate Director.
• Oversee campus security operations, emergency preparedness, and incident response.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including Clery Act reporting.
• Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
• Partner with campus and external stakeholders to promote a community-focused safety culture.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• 5–7 years of public safety, law enforcement, or emergency management experience.
• Supervisory and leadership experience.
• Strong communication, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.
• Due to the nature of campus safety operations, the Director of Public Safety must maintain a residence or be located such that they can respond to campus within 20 minutes when needed.
