St. Ambrose University is seeking an energetic and visionary Director of Marching Band Performance to lead our dynamic marching band program and continue to elevate its presence on campus and beyond.
The Director of Marching Band Performance provides artistic and administrative leadership for the university's marching band. This role includes designing shows, directing rehearsals and performances, recruiting student musicians, and promoting the band as a visible and vibrant part of campus life.
Key Responsibilities
- Run an effective technical program with goals of constantly growing the ability level of each individual member of the program.
- Design music and field shows for athletic events, and special performances.
- Organize and manage all community performances that showcase the SAU Fighting Bee band in collaboration with the Coordinator of Performances and events.
- Conduct rehearsals and manage all performance logistics.
- Recruit brass, woodwind, percussion, and guard participants for fall marching band.
- Supervise all supplemental teaching staff.
- Manage all percussion equipment maintenance (repair, head changes, cleanings, etc.)
- Teach two spring semester Marching Percussion Techniques courses.
- Assist with organization of equipment and uniforms
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience directing or assisting with marching bands.
- Strong musical, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a higher education or small university setting.
- Proven ability to recruit and mentor student musicians.
