Position Summary
The Operations Lead serves as the primary on-shift leader responsible for coordinating daily arena operations, supervising Operations Technicians, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional operation of Fire N Ice Arena. This role provides hands-on leadership for ice operations, event conversions, facility maintenance, and guest service while serving as a key resource for operational decision-making during assigned shifts.
The Operations Lead is expected to lead by example, maintain high operational standards, train staff, and ensure facility readiness for all programs and events. This position requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced multi-purpose venue.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Oversight
- Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to Operations Technicians during assigned shifts.
- Assign daily work tasks and monitor completion of operational responsibilities.
- Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring new Operations Technicians.
- Ensure staff compliance with safety procedures, operational standards, and facility policies.
- Serve as the lead operational contact during evenings, weekends, and assigned events.
- Communicate operational concerns, staffing needs, and facility issues to supervisors.
- Assist with scheduling, shift coverage coordination, and workforce planning as requested.
Ice Operations
- Operate and oversee the operation of ice resurfacing equipment.
- Maintain high-quality ice conditions through resurfacing, edging, flooding, and monitoring ice temperatures.
- Lead hockey, skating, and special event ice setups.
- Monitor refrigeration, ice-making, and related mechanical systems and escalate issues when necessary.
- Assist with seasonal ice installation and removal projects.
- Ensure all rink equipment and operational areas meet facility standards.
Event & Dry Floor Operations
- Lead facility conversions between ice and non-ice configurations.
- Coordinate setup and breakdown of flooring systems, seating, stages, courts, tables, chairs, and event equipment.
- Support tournaments, concerts, public skating sessions, graduations, community events, and special programs.
- Ensure event spaces are prepared according to event specifications and timelines.
- Assist event management staff in resolving operational issues during events.
Facility Maintenance
- Conduct facility inspections and identify maintenance priorities.
- Perform and oversee preventative maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and facility-related issues.
- Coordinate repair requests and document operational deficiencies.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and professional presentation of all operational areas.
- Assist with grounds maintenance and exterior facility upkeep as required.
Safety & Emergency Response
- Promote and enforce all OSHA, PPE, lockout/tagout, and facility safety standards.
- Respond to operational emergencies, guest incidents, and facility hazards.
- Assist with incident investigations and documentation.
- Support emergency action plans and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure staff maintain a safe environment for guests, participants, and employees.
Guest Service
- Serve as a professional representative of the facility.
- Assist guests, teams, officials, vendors, and event personnel with operational needs.
- Resolve routine guest concerns and operational issues in a timely manner.
- Promote a positive customer experience through leadership and professionalism.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two years of arena, sports facility, event venue, or facility operations experience.
- Experience operating ice resurfacing equipment or equivalent mechanical equipment.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, or crew-lead experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and facility maintenance knowledge.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight conversions.
- Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 75 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ice arena operations experience.
- Refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building systems experience.
- Previous supervisory experience in a sports, entertainment, or recreation facility.
- Forklift and/or scissor lift certification.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
- Ability to work in cold environments for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate tools, machinery, vehicles, and arena equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work while supervising operational activities.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with an anticipated schedule of 40 hours per week. Work hours may vary based on facility programming, events, tournaments, public skating sessions, change-overs and other operational needs. Evening, weekend, holiday, and occasional overnight work may be required.
