Position Summary
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of all building systems within a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility. This position provides technical support for HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, building automation, and life safety systems to ensure reliable operation of the facility.
The Facilities Engineer works closely with the Director of Operations to maintain building assets, coordinate service contractors, support event operations, and ensure systems are maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.
- Monitor and adjust Building Automation Systems (BAS) to maintain efficient operation.
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors and service vendors.
- Support commissioning, warranty, and equipment start-up activities for new building systems.
- Assist in maintaining refrigeration equipment supporting two ice sheets.
- Perform routine inspections of building systems and identify maintenance or repair needs.
- Maintain maintenance equipment, tools, and inventory of repair parts.
- Assist with facility conversions and provide technical support during special events.
- Participate in emergency response and respond to building system failures outside normal business hours when required.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety policies, and applicable building codes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Technology, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five years of experience maintaining commercial building systems.
- Experience with HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Experience working with preventative maintenance programs and CMMS software.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, equipment manuals, and specifications.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in sports, recreation, entertainment, or public assembly facilities.
- Experience with commercial refrigeration or ice arena systems.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of commercial mechanical and electrical systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an operations team.
Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments based on operational requirements, scheduled events, and emergency response needs.
Physical Requirements
The position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, lifting up to 75 pounds, operating maintenance equipment, and working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
