What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Process Engineer position at SSOE Group and Careers?
SSOE is looking to hire a Senior Process Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead the detailed design and engineering of complex chemical and process systems, including fluid transfer networks, heat exchangers, specialty gas distribution, ultrapure/high-purity water treatment, and hazardous wastewater processing for industrial clients primarily within advanced high-tech industrial, semiconductor, biotech, healthcare, and pharmaceutical facilities for the world’s leading high-tech companies. As a Senior Process Engineer at SSOE, you will have an opportunity to leverage your expertise and contribute to projects that redefine industry standards. If you have a passion for cutting-edge technology, your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the quality, compliance, and innovation of our designs.
- Lead end-to-end process engineering design for industrial facilities, including front-end engineering design, detailed design, and construction support of chemical processing, fluid handling, and water treatment systems.
- Produce and review engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment datasheets, and process flow diagrams (PFDs) using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring adherence to ASME, API standards, and local codes applicable to process and utilities systems.
- Execute detailed hydraulic calculations for fluid transfer systems addressing pressure loss, flow velocity, friction, and heat exchange performance, applying state-of-the-art modeling approaches to validate design integrity.
- Develop design solutions for specialty gas and chemical distribution systems with stringent purity and safety requirements, incorporating robust leak detection and ventilation strategies compliant with NFPA and OSHA standards.
- Collaborate extensively with mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines to resolve system interface issues, support constructability reviews, and coordinate industry-specific documentation packages for client submission and agency approvals.
- Lead peer reviews and quality assurance/quality control processes to verify design accuracy, code compliance, and operational integrity before client submission and regulatory review.
- Direct technical interfaces with contractors and vendors during submittal reviews, request for information (RFI) responses, and site walks to validate installation adherence to design criteria and ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers on process design principles, engineering calculation methods, and use of CAD/BIM tools for process systems.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, codes, and best practices for ultrapure and wastewater treatment system design in semiconductor and chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal standards, checklists, and modeling protocols consistent with SSOE’s culture of quality and innovation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a technically related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution, which qualifies for licensure in the state of practice.
- Active PE license in California or evidence of ability to obtain by reciprocity within six months of hire; responsible charge of mechanical design and stamping authority required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in designing fluid transfer systems, heat exchanger networks, specialty gas and chemical distribution, solvent/acid waste treatment, and ultrapure water systems.
- Thorough knowledge of chemical process engineering principles, process safety standards, and facility engineering best practices.
- Proficient in performing engineering calculations related to friction loss, pressure drop, hydraulic flow, and heat transfer.
- Skilled use of AutoCAD and Revit for 3D modeling and detailed drawing production of process systems.
- Experience applying relevant codes and standards, including but not limited to ASME, EPA wastewater regulations, NFPA standards, and OSHA chemical safety regulations.
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely to clients, project managers, contractors, and cross-discipline teams.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior engineers or leading small project teams through complex electrical design challenges.
- Salary Range: $160,000 - $250,000/year depending on location, education, depth of relevant experience. Opportunity for ample rewards, leadership incentive/bonus program, and ownership investment opportunities.
- Benefits: Includes comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401K retirement savings plan (with company matching), opportunities for professional development and training (including support for relevant licensure & certifications), and generous PTO & paid holidays.
