Job Summary:
Collaborates with the health care team to provide social, emotional, and developmental support during a pediatric patient's illness and hospitalization.Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides educational preparation to patients and families prior to potential anxiety provoking tests, procedures, or events through the use of explanation, hands on materials, and medical play.
- Supplies a caring and secure atmosphere for patients and their families in pediatrics.
- Collaborates with the health care team to plan appropriate interventions.
- Develops and/or participates in outreach and educational activities to teach families, staff, and the community about issues and services related to ill and hospitalized children.
- Acts as a resource for families and the health care team regarding child development including behavior modification and compliance issues.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life Human Development or related field
EXPERIENCE
- No experience required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent reaching, sitting, standing and walking.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, twisting and gripping.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements and squatting.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- And
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) - Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP)
