What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Experienced Auditor position at SSL Associates, Ltd.?
We are a small, established CPA firm serving mainly small to midsize nonprofit organizations as well as nonpublic businesses. As the firm continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced auditor to join our team on a part-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned audit professional looking for meaningful work in a professional, collaborative environment. We are open to candidates whose public accounting or external audit experience may not be recent — what matters most is the depth of experience you bring. While the position is generally structured around 15–20 hours per week with two days on-site at our South Naperville office, we are happy to discuss hours, days, and schedule arrangements for the right person.
Key Responsibilities
· Work as part of our team, and independently to:
o Perform financial statement audits for nonprofit organizations and small business clients.
o Evaluate internal controls, assess risk, and ensure compliance with GAAP and GAAS.
o Prepare and review audit documentation, workpapers, financial statements, and reports.
· Communicate directly with clients and collaborate with team members to meet engagement deadlines and quality standards.
· Manage your own workload and prioritize tasks effectively with a high degree of autonomy.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
· Minimum of 2–4 years of public accounting audit experience - does not need to be recent
· Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
· Self-directed and comfortable working independently with minimal oversight.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and GAAS; familiarity with GAGAS (Yellow Book) and/or Single Audits is a plus.
· Experience auditing nonprofit organizations strongly preferred.
· Familiarity with Thomson Reuters Cloud Audit Suite and / or QuickBooks is a plus.
· CPA license or actively pursuing CPA preferred.
Compensation & Schedule
· Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience and qualifications.
· 401k with firm match
· Approximately 15–20 hours per week; We are flexible on total hours for the right candidate.
· Generally spread over 2–3 days, with two days on-site at our South Naperville, IL office.
· While the preference is for two days in the office each week, we are open to finding an arrangement that works for the right person.
