As Director of Engineering, you will lead the engineering organization and drive the technology strategy that supports the company's future growth. Working closely with executive leadership, you will define and execute product roadmaps, guide new technology development, and lead the introduction of next-generation sensor platforms. A key aspect of the role is developing scalable technology platforms that enable product differentiation, technology reuse, and efficient development across multiple product families.


The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in electronics-based products and sensor technologies with a proven ability to build high-performing teams and deliver successful products to market. This individual will be equally comfortable discussing product strategy with executive leadership, engaging customers on technical solutions, and mentoring engineers through complex design challenges.



RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering Strategy & Technology Leadership

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy aligned with company objectives, technology roadmaps, and product growth initiatives.
  • Partner with executive leadership to establish long-term product and technology strategies.
  • Identify emerging technologies, market trends, and customer needs that drive future product development.
  • Guide system architecture and technical direction to ensure scalable, reliable, and manufacturable product solutions.
  • Drive platform-based product development strategies that maximize technology reuse, scalability, and speed-to-market across multiple product families.
  • Balance innovation, technical risk, and execution priorities across the engineering portfolio.

Product Development & Technical Execution

  • Lead the development of advanced sensor products from concept through production launch.
  • Oversee feature enhancements for existing platforms and the development of next-generation sensor technologies.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct New Product Introduction (NPI), validation, qualification, and product release activities.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance for complex engineering and customer challenges.
  • Drive engineering excellence through robust design, verification, and problem-solving methodologies.

Organizational Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team including mechanical, electrical, firmware, and systems engineering disciplines.
  • Build a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Establish performance expectations and support career development across the organization.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between engineering, operations, quality, sales, and product management.

Program & Operational Management

  • Own engineering resource planning, budgeting, and organizational capacity planning.
  • Establish and improve engineering development processes, tools, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure projects are executed on schedule, within budget, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Monitor engineering performance through quality, delivery, reliability, and operational metrics.
  • Remove organizational and technical barriers that impact execution and product delivery.

Customer & Business Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, technology partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in strategic customer engagements, technical reviews, and business development activities.
  • Support manufacturing operations and global product launch activities.
  • Represent engineering in executive planning, business reviews, and customer-facing discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable customer, industry, and regulatory requirements.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive engineering leadership experience in product development organizations.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary engineering teams including electrical, firmware, mechanical, and systems engineering disciplines.
  • Proven experience developing electronics-based products incorporating embedded microcontrollers, sensors, and firmware.
  • Track record of bringing products from concept through validation, production launch, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of product development processes, systems engineering, design for manufacturability, reliability engineering, and quality systems.
  • Experience working with automotive, commercial vehicle, off-road, industrial, or adjacent markets.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience designing or leading development of sensor products.
  • Experience with functional safety, automotive development processes, or high-reliability applications.
  • Experience supporting globally distributed engineering and manufacturing organizations.
  • Experience developing connected, intelligent, or microprocessor-based products.
