SSI is a global leader, designing and manufacturing industrial recycling and processing equipment. We're seeking a Field Service Technician to join our team and ensure optimal performance of our client's machinery.
Position Overview:
SSI Shredding Systems is seeking a mechanically minded, customer-focused technician with above average communication skills to support our industrial shredder installations worldwide. This position is ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, enjoys problem-solving in real-world environments, and is passionate about delivering exceptional customer service.
You’ll begin by training alongside experienced technicians on our assembly floor, where you’ll gain hands-on experience building electrical panels, hydraulic power units, and shredder cutting chambers, as well as testing complete systems prior to shipment. Once you’ve demonstrated a solid foundation in shredder fundamentals, you’ll be paired with senior field service technicians to travel to customer sites, perform preventative maintenance, assist with complex mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and complete field service reports.
During the initial training period (0–12 months), travel will be limited to North America. However, upon demonstrating strong product knowledge and consistently high levels of customer service, international travel may be required as part of your ongoing responsibilities. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and mechanical inspections at customer locations
- Assist in diagnosing, repairing, and testing SSI industrial shredding equipment
- Document findings and service work through detailed field reports
- Communicate directly with customers, explaining issues and proposed resolutions clearly and professionally
- Identify upgrade opportunities or recurring technical issues and communicate them internally
Technical Skills & Qualifications:
- Mechanical aptitude with industrial machinery, fabrication, or mechanical systems
- Basic familiarity with:
- PLC systems (troubleshooting interface-level functions)
- HMI screens and user operations
- Open-loop and closed-loop hydraulic systems
- 230-575v AC
- 24Vdc Controls
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel (including overnight travel, typically up to 75%)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, kneeling, and working in tight or elevated spaces for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications:
- Trade school, technical certification, or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related field
- Certifications such as:
- OSHA 10/30
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Experience with industrial shredders, conveyors, balers, or recycling equipment
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly pay range: $25.00 - $30.00, with additional travel incentive, DOE.
