CNC Lathe Department Lead/Set Up Machinist

Position Description

The CNC Lathe Department Lead/Set Up Machinist is a permanent, full-time position located in Bristol, CT reporting to the Lathe Department Manager. Roles and responsibilities of the Lead Machinist include the following:

• Sets up complex jobs on our CNC lathes and gains approval for first pieces.
• As directed, runs production parts to fulfill customer orders
• Implements direction, strategies, initiatives and priorities of the Lathe Department Manager
• Supports other Lathe Department Machinists by being a 'go to' resource to troubleshoot and resolve process and/or mechanical issues.
• Monitors production within the department and helps determine bottlenecks and areas for improvement
• Performs routine machine maintenance, and collaborated with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues and to optimize processes.
• Emphasizes maintaining safe work environments with excellent Housekeeping standards

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to read and edit as necessary CNC machining programs and to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
• Minimum of 10 years hands on experience and demonstrated ability to set up and operate CNC lathes .
• Well-developed teaching and coaching skills to guide, train, and mentor team members on safe, efficient machining practices and departmental procedures.
• Previous experience working in CNC manufacturing environments in which manufacturing close tolerance parts and components is required, such as for aerospace, defense, and similar critical markets
• Personal commitment to manufacturing quality parts and components and in achieving daily production standards
• Demonstrated ability to use inspection instruments, gages and pins to ensure customer specifications are being achieved
• Ability to communicate effectively with other machinists, quality inspectors, vendors, customers, and company management
• Must value honesty, integrity, dependability and to being on time
