Here is what you will be doing:
- Actively supervise and instruct in all activities in railcar washing, switching, and loading areas including:
- Detailed inspection of railcars before loading to ensure cars are in good order.
- Safe switching and indexing of railcars within structures.
- Accurate loading of correct products as documented in Customer systems and in communication with Customer operators in plant.
- Accurate sampling of products in correlation with loads.
- Reconciliation and tracking of all activities.
- Use loading management software to ensure that all railcars that enter, exit, or load within the process area are accurately documented.
- Oversee safe execution of rail movements and switch lists based on day-to-day needs and changes.
- Proactively predict logistics difficulties, use problem solving skills to actively prevent logistics difficulties before they happen.
- Frequently communicate with Customer plant operators to ensure paring of loading activities with plant production.
- Drive over all quality control and product control between two Customer partners.
- Actively foresee and manage needs for the correct volume, type, and owner of railcars to meet production needs which will change from day to day.
- Drive front-line walk downs of work areas and loading superstructure to complete tier-1 maintenance checks.
- Respond to active reporting needs from the Customer and Savage Logistics or Operations Managers.
- Will need to accurately and professionally hand off logistics tasks surrounding shift changes.
- To lead the Operation Clean Sweep and 5S efforts at facility.
Requirements of a successful Operations Supervisor:
- Detailed understanding of the needs of rail movements and mechanical reliability in order to provide a continual stream of cars to the loading area.
- Safety leader in areas with heavy equipment, moving railcars, and 8-10 Team Members working per shift.
- Supervise and instruct Team Members who may be performing separate tasks at once.
- Communicate detailed instructions and patiently repeat instructions in order for them to be performed correctly.
- Work a rotating shift, 24-hour day-time schedule. This will result in holidays and weekends being on rotation as well as rotations on night shift.
- Able to work with limited supervision – can accurately and efficiently keep railcar washing and loading activities progressing with limited input from Operations Manager.
- Demonstrates a sense of ownership for responsibilities, understands the correct execution of their tasks have implications for the entire team.
- Can proactively identify problem areas with customers and work with manager to develop a resolution.
What we need from you:
- 3-5 Years’ experience in a rail switching operations minimum.
- Experience with in-plant or bulk plastics rail activities strongly preferred.
- A background taking on additional or progressive responsibilities.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
- Understand and apply SHAP’s safety process.
- Active role in S7 implementation.

- Travel long distances, on occasion, for additional training or support.
