What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder position at SS Industries?
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for including but not limited to cutting and joining metals (steel and aluminum) components using MIG and/or TIG welding units. Using these skills and tools, you will be producing product at the highest quality, meeting production targets and working safely.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Understand how to setup machine, change consumables, and set gases
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical or horizontal)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Material identification – thicknesses, type
- Read tape measure to the 1/16”, dial calipers, and Vernier calipers.
- Knowledge of safety standards and willingness to use PPE (Weld hood, face shield, gloves, jacket, etc)
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 1-2 years of welding experience
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc).
- Math skills – fractions, decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
- Read blueprints and perform a flat layout.
- Capable of lifting up to 50lbs.
