What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist II– Protein Characterization & Antibody Developability position at SRT Therapeutics Inc.?
Scientist II– Protein Characterization & Antibody Developability
Location: San Diego, CA Department: Protein Sciences
Pay range: 92k-153k
Company Overview
SRT Therapeutics is a fast-paced, science-driven biopharma company focused on advancing innovative biologics. We are seeking a highly motivated and independent Scientist II to lead protein characterization and antibody developability efforts within our Protein Sciences team. This role is central to our early-stage discovery and development programs, requiring a strategic thinker who can translate complex biophysical data into actionable insights for therapeutic candidate selection.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in the analytical and biophysical profiling of diverse therapeutic formats (e.g., mAbs, multispecifics, and ADCs). You will be responsible for hands-on characterization of molecule purity and stability, review of comprehensive developability assessments, troubleshooting complex technical challenges, and driving the analytical strategy to de-risk and accelerate our biologics pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Characterization: Design and lead the biophysical and analytical characterization of proteins and biologics, utilizing techniques including SEC-HPLC, HIC, RP-HPLC, CE-SDS, and cIEF
- Advanced Method Development: Independently develop and optimize product specific analytical methods to support the unique requirements of next-generation multispecific platforms
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as the Protein Sciences lead in discovery project teams, providing expert data interpretation and making "go/no-go" recommendations for lead candidates
- Technical Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary technical lead for troubleshooting instrumentation and anomalous assay results, implementing robust solutions to maintain high data quality
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain rigorous electronic lab notebooks and author high-quality technical reports, SOPs, and regulatory filing contributions (e.g., IND-enabling data)
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of post-PhD experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting, specifically focused on protein and antibody characterization
Required Skills:
- Subject Matter Expertise: Deep understanding of antibody structure-function relationships and the biophysical drivers of protein stability and manufacturability
- Experimental Design: Proven ability to work independently to design complex experiments, analyze multi-dimensional datasets, and derive meaningful conclusions. The scientist must be adaptable and successfully balance scientific rigor with speed.
- Instrumentation Proficiency: Expert-level hands-on experience with HPLC/UPLC based protein characterization platforms and capillary electrophoresis systems
- Autonomy: Demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, "startup-style" environment with minimal supervision.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific findings to diverse internal and external stakeholders
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with diverse biologics formats such as bispecifics, ADCs, fusion proteins or masked antibodies
- Knowledge of computational tools for predicting protein developability in silico and microscale methods for early therapeutic characterization
- Understanding of developability filters to assess thermal stability, solubility, aggregation propensity, and physical and chemical stress stability
