Senior Bookkeeper

A growing public accounting firm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented contract to hire Senior Bookkeeper to join its Client Accounting Services (CAS) team. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of small and mid-sized businesses, providing outsourced accounting and bookkeeping support that helps clients maintain accurate financial records and make informed business decisions.

The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping experience within a CPA firm, accounting practice, or client-services environment, along with advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and a solid understanding of small business accounting operations. Experience supporting tax engagements and collaborating with tax professionals is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions for multiple client accounts
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely transaction processing
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts
• Prepare adjusting journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Support client Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) activities
• Process payroll and assist with payroll tax reporting and year-end filings
• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns
• Generate financial reports and assist clients with financial record maintenance
• Work directly with clients to address bookkeeping questions and accounting needs
• Assist with accounting software setup, integrations, and process improvements
• Collaborate with tax and accounting professionals to support tax preparation and compliance efforts
• Participate in special projects and client advisory initiatives as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 4 years of bookkeeping or client accounting experience
• Prior experience within a public accounting, CPA firm, or outsourced accounting environment strongly preferred
• Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online
• QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification preferred
• Strong understanding of both cash-basis and accrual-basis accounting
• Experience preparing payroll, sales tax filings, and year-end reporting
• Familiarity with accounting technology platforms, automation tools, and software integrations
• Excellent organizational, communication, and client-service skills
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing deadlines
