Department: Tu Ha’ Buts Youth Center (TYC)

Reports To: Niki Ho

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Time Status: .5 FTE (20 hours a week) Monday-Friday 2-6 With the occasional weekend during TYC events.

TS Range: 3/4 ($16.96)

Opening Date: October 24, 2025

Closing Date: November 7, 2025


SUMMARY: The homework & Recreation Support Aide provides supervision, guidance, and support to youth during afterschool programs. This position assists youth with homework, promotes positive behavior and helps facilitate engaging cultural activities in a safe environment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provides academic support in all subject areas one on one or in small groups

· Supervise and engage youth in afterschool and recreation activities ensuring safety and participation

· Help organize, implement and provide overall supervision of planned daily program activities

· Encourage positive social interactions, teamwork and respect among participants

· Promotes student comprehension of materials

· Works with students to improve study skills

· Accurately tracks program attendance

· Assist with daily setup and cleanup and organization of program spaces and materials

· Provides a positive, supportive environment where youth feel welcome and supported

· Reinforces positive student behaviors and Education Center expectations

· Maintains a clean work environment

· Maintains a positive relationship with all students and staff

· Accurately reports any incidents or concerns to the Education Director

· Assists Education Department with various seasonal activities or events including Spring Break and Summer programming

· Provide support for Parks and Recreation events such as Halloween Party, Christmas Party, Etc.

· Other duties as assigned


SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of basic algebra and geometry, equations, measurements, formulas, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have valid Washington State Driver’s License; Current First Aid, and CPR certification. Successful applicant must also pass a WATCH, and Tribal background check.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear, and is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms; and frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. This position may occasionally require lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities to perform the essential functions include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


OTHER: This position will have knowledge of confidential personal information regarding others. The employee will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and adhere to applicable standards. Any violation in this matter will result in termination of employment.


There will be no tolerance of the abuse of alcohol or use of illegal drugs while employed in the Squaxin Island Tu Ha’ Buts Learning Center. Use of tobacco in front of youth is not permitted. Any violation of these policies is cause for immediate termination.


DRUG FREE WORKPLACE: The successful candidate will be required to have a urinalysis for drug and alcohol screening in

accordance with the Tribe’s Drug Free Workplace Policy.


INDIAN PREFERENCE: Indian Preference will be exercised in the hiring of this position in accordance with the Tribe’s Personnel

Policies.

Requirements:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED and one year of experience or 3 years of relevant experience.

The successful applicant must: demonstrate knowledge of core subject areas; possess effective written and oral communication skills; deal with students in a warm and confident manner; remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations; organize activities; follow instructions; be fair and consistent when working with students; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents; and achieve and maintain cultural competency.
